UFC OTTAWA ANNOUNCED WITH SEVERAL BOUTS INCLUDING DEREK BRUNSON VS. ELIAS THEODOROU
This week, UFC Fight Night 150 was officially announced and the event will take place May 4 in Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Along with declaring that the card, a range of bouts are revealed, and here they are under along with my initial thoughts on them.
Derek Brunson vs. Elias Theodorou, UFC Fight Night 150
The most crucial fight announced for this particular card thus far is a middleweight bout between top-15 fighters Derek Brunson and Elias Theodorou. Brunson (18-7) is 9-5 in the UFC and is coming from back-to-back KO declines to Israel Adesanya and Ronaldo”Jacare” Souza. Theodorou (16-2) is 8-2 at the UFC and has won his last three fights including a decision win over Eryk Anders in his final outing. Brunson has the wrestling and power but Theodorou has the cardio and chin. Tough one to call but I would have to favor Theodorou at this point.
Arjan Bhullar vs. Juan Adams, UFC Fight Night 150
A fun heavyweight bout sees Arjan Bhullar take on Juan Adams. Bhullar (8-1) is 2-1 in the UFC and chose over Marcelo Golm his final fight. Adams (5-0) has won all five of his pro fights by TKO such as a knockout over Chris de la Rocha in his UFC debut. Though Bhullar has solid wrestling, I believe Adams is a top notch prospect and would make him a big favorite here.
Sarah Moras vs. Leah Letson, UFC Fight Night 150
Women’s bantamweight Sarah Moras will take on Leah Letson. Moras (5-4) is 2-3 in the UFC and has lost her last two fights. Letson (5-1) is really on a five-fight win series including a victory in her UFC debut. Moras is fade material and that I would heavily favor Letson to get the win .
Brad Katona vs. Merab Dvalishvili, UFC Fight Night 150
Bantamweight prospect Brad Katona will find a step up when he chooses on Merab Dvalishvili. Katona (8-0) is 2-0 in the UFC and just dominated Matthew Lopez in his last fight after winning TUF. Dvalishvili (8-4) is 1-2 at the UFC and is coming off of a decision win over Terrion Ware in his last fight. Katona is an excellent prospect and Dvalishvili is a great test for him at this stage of his career. It is a tough one to call here but given the fact Katona is still undefeated, and of course Canadian, I think you have to prefer him here.
Mitch Gagnon vs. Brian Kelleher, UFC Fight Night 150
Bantamweights in desperate need of wins will meet as Mitch Gagnon takes on Brian Kelleher. Gagnon (12-4) is 4-3 at the UFC and is coming from consecutive losses. Kelleher (19-10) is 3-3 in the UFC and has also lost his last 2 fights. Both men are fade cloth but given Gagnon’s long layoff you’d have to slightly favor Kelleher in this one.
Marc-Andre Barriault vs. Andrew Sanchez, UFC Fight Night 150
Former TKO middleweight champion Marc-Andre Barriault will take on Andrew Sanchez in his UFC debut. Barriault (11-1) is coming off of eight wins in a row in TKO and is among Canada’s greatest MMA prospects. Sanchez (10-4) is 3-2 at the UFC and conquered Markus Perez by decision in his final fight. Sanchez is a solid fighter but I believe Barriault is going to be really good and I would definitely favor him for the win in the capital of Canada.
Aiemann Zahabi vs. Vince Morales, UFC Fight Night 150
And finally, bantamweights Aiemann Zahabi and Vince Morales will fight. Zahabi (7-1) is 1-1 at the UFC and lost to Ricardo Ramos via KO in his last fight. Morales (8-3) lost his UFC debut to Yadong Song. This one can go either but I’d prefer Zahabi just because of the fact he will be fighting so close to home.
