MMA ODDS AND ENDS FOR TUESDAY: DC VS. HENDO RUMORED FOR UFC 175
A matchup between two of the top-10 light heavyweights in the world is rumored to occur at UFC 175. According to a report from MMAFighting.com, Daniel Cormier is likely to face legend Dan Henderson in UFC 175 that July in Las Vegas. Formerly, Cormier had been linked to a fight against Rafael Feijao, but the UFC has apparently thought twice about that matchup and is going to do Cormier/Hendo instead. Even though the report was said to be false by UFC president Dana White through Twitter, we all understand that White likes to maintain these types of items in house until they are 100% official, and undoubtedly as the old saying goes,”Where there is smoke there is fire.” I truly do believe this matchup involving Cormier and Henderson happens because it’s the struggle that makes most sense in the 205lb division right now. There are a lot of individuals out there discussing how awful Henderson looked in the initial two rounds of his struggle with Shogun Rua at UFC Fight Night 38 a few weeks past, and he certainly didn’t look like the Hendo of older for the first 10 minutes. But what people forget is that the fight was scheduled for 25 minutes, and Henderson got the work finished in the minute of the struggle. I feel like fans and press have been far too critical of Henderson believing that, you know, he won the struggle with Shogun. As far as Cormier goes, he has been unbeaten in his mixed martial arts profession and essentially untested for the most part as he has been pretty much perfect in all of his fights, including his three at the UFC against Roy Nelson, Frank Mir, and Pat Cummins. But I genuinely believe Henderson is a more dangerous fighter compared to all three of these men, and this struggle between DC and Hendo is no walk in the park for DC, despite what some people are saying. That being said, obviously Henderson would put in the fight Cormier has a big favorite, if it really goes down. My guess is that DC opens about -400 for the struggle, one which is likely to serve as the co-main event of UFC 175 when that event happens. I think that is a fair place for DC, but that I would not surprised at all when the betting public bets him up to some crazy number, possibly. Hopefully we get confirmation of the bout soon, since I think Hendo is the right test for DC and when Cormier can finish him in impressive fashion, he’ll have really got his title taken against Jon Jones.
