There’s a minute in My Time one of the Whites, Jennine Capo Crucet’s new guide of essays, that sticks beside me.
It’s the season 2000 and Crucet is sitting on the ground of her dorm space at Cornell, sharing pizza together with her other pupils. The pizza is really a splurge it’s not for the other girls, most of whom come from affluent families for her, a first-generation college student and child of Cuban immigrants, in a way.
