Cleveland Cavaliers
A post-LeBron James rebuild was always inevitable in Northeast Ohio, and the Cavs have obviously accepted that destiny. Through four in-season transactions they restocked their cabinets with nine incoming draft selections, including a pair of prospective firsts.
But before heading down reclamation street, oft-injured Kevin Love was first given a four-year by Cleveland. That speed not only looks inflated given his health history and defensive deficiencies, but it could also lead the Cavs to a couple of unnecessary wins. He’s still capable of scoring or rebounding at an rate.
The plan has been doomed from the beginning, if the thought was to lean on Love’s leadership then reverse him for more rebuilding tools.
“You are not getting an asset for him under some conditions,” a Western Conference executive advised Bleacher Report’s Ken Berger earlier this year.
Speaking of assets, the in-house collection underwhelms from each angle. Collin Sexton is intriguing, but his 41.1 field-goal percent and 15.6 assist percentage emphasize his limits. Cedi Osman functions as a bit, but likely nothing more. To put it differently, the Cavs could be at least away from forming their base that is next a few drafts.
